Work Comp Wednesday: Safety Audits

A safety audit is a systematic approach conducted for the purpose of assessing and evaluating unsafe hazards in the workplace. They address health, safety and fire hazard identification. Most work site audits will review and examine compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other regulatory and industry safety requirements, as well as employee training and documentation of compliance.

Safety audits are sometimes conducted by insurance carriers as a means to evaluate the extent of risk they are taking on, and typically they are open to conducting inspections if requested by an insured. Outside safety consultants may also be hired to conduct such an inspection. A good safety audit can bring about positive change.
